The Brain & Performance Centre, A DP World Company, has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the UAE Athletic Commission to strengthen boxing athlete brain health and safety, and enhance medical standards across professional boxing in the UAE.
Under the agreement, the Centre will become one of the Commission’s approved medical service providers, offering comprehensive pre-fight brain health and performance assessments for professional boxers competing in sanctioned events.
Expanding athlete assessments
All professional boxers competing in UAE-sanctioned events are required to undergo a pre-fight MRI examination as part of the mandatory medical clearance process.
In addition to this requirement, athletes will now have the option to complete a comprehensive brain health and performance assessment at The Brain & Performance Centre.
These optional assessments are designed to complement the mandatory MRI by providing additional neurological and performance data.
Helping athletes and medical teams gain a more complete picture of brain health before competition.
Advanced technology supports informed decisions
The Brain & Performance Centre uses advanced technologies and scientifically validated assessment protocols to evaluate cognitive function, reaction time, balance, and other key neurological indicators.
The additional data supports a more comprehensive understanding of an athlete’s brain health and helps inform medical decision-making ahead of competition.
Leadership perspectives
Dr. Craig Cook, CEO of The Brain & Performance Centre, A DP World Company, said:
“This partnership represents an important milestone in our mission to advance brain health through innovation and science.
Working alongside the UAE Athletic Commission, we are expanding access to proactive neurological assessment and giving athletes the opportunity to gain a more comprehensive understanding of their brain health and performance.
This is about supporting and protecting fighters both inside and outside the ring.”
Pat Fiacco, Boxing Commissioner, UAE Athletic Commission, said:
“This partnership reinforces our commitment to the highest international standards in athlete health and safety.
Making comprehensive assessment available alongside mandatory MRI examinations strengthens the integrity and professionalism of boxing in the UAE and sets a clear benchmark as the sport continues to grow across the region.”
Rollout planned later this year
The Brain & Performance Centre will begin offering the optional assessments to professional boxers competing in sanctioned UAE events later this year as one of the Commission’s approved medical service providers.
Further details regarding referrals and the programme rollout will be announced in due course.
