Khalifa International Bowling Centre at Zayed Sports City has unveiled its upgraded facilities following a major refurbishment designed to improve the experience for competitive bowlers, recreational players and visitors.
Operated by OVG Middle East, Zayed Sports City has introduced new bowling lane machinery and high-performance surfaces across all 40 lanes, alongside improvements to the venue’s reception, lobby and public spaces.
The refurbishment aims to support the centre’s continued role as a destination for international bowling competitions, local leagues and community activities.
Khalifa International Bowling Centre upgrades all 40 lanes
A central part of the refurbishment involved replacing the centre’s existing bowling machinery with newer-generation pinsetters.
The updated technology is designed to reduce energy consumption while supporting the venue’s regular bowling activities.
In addition, all 40 lanes have received new high-performance surfaces, providing updated playing conditions for professional athletes, competitive leagues and recreational bowlers.
The improvements are intended to help the centre accommodate different levels of participation, from international tournaments to casual games.
Refurbished interiors improve the visitor experience
Beyond the bowling lanes, the refurbishment has introduced improvements to the centre’s reception area, lobby and supporting public spaces.
The updated interiors and amenities are designed to make the venue more comfortable and accessible for players, families and spectators.
These changes also aim to create a more convenient experience for visitors attending competitions, social gatherings and recreational activities.
Together, the facility upgrades form part of Zayed Sports City’s efforts to maintain the venue as a destination for both competitive and community sport.
A long-standing venue for international bowling competitions
Originally opened in 1999, Khalifa International Bowling Centre was purpose-built to host elite bowling competitions.
Since then, it has welcomed several major international events, including multiple World Championships, the Asian Bowling Championship and Special Olympics competitions.
The venue has also become an established destination for local bowling leagues, schools and recreational players.
Before the refurbishment, the centre recorded more than 17,000 games per month, reflecting its regular use by competitive athletes and the wider community.
With the upgraded facilities now unveiled, the centre aims to continue hosting international competitions while maintaining opportunities for local participation.
Bowling, billiards and family activities at Zayed Sports City
Alongside its bowling facilities, Khalifa International Bowling Centre offers several additional recreational activities.
Visitors can play billiards and table tennis, while on-site dining options are also available.
The venue includes a dedicated pro shop offering bowling equipment and accessories for players.
In addition, the centre accommodates birthday celebrations, corporate team-building activities and group gatherings, making it a destination for social events as well as sport.
Opening hours and visitor information
Khalifa International Bowling Centre is open throughout the week, with different opening hours for weekdays and weekends.
From Monday to Friday, the centre operates between 12pm and midnight.
On Saturday and Sunday, opening hours are 10am to midnight.
