Women of Sport: Building a Career Brick by Brick with Zayed Sports City’s Sports Hub Venue Manager, Itab Letaief

From FIFA fan zones to Coldplay crowds, Itab Letaief has spent 15 years helping deliver some of the UAE’s biggest sporting and live event moments — now overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Sports Hub and Tennis Complex at Zayed Sports City.

Sport has a way of finding people. For Itab Letaief, it found her through the energy of a crowd, the buzz of a major event, and the quiet satisfaction of making everything run seamlessly behind the scenes.

Originally from Tunisia, Itab moved to the UAE in 2007 and quickly found her footing in the world of large-scale events  from Formula 1 to FIFA World Cup fan activations. What started as a spark of interest in sports operations grew into a 15-year career built entirely on performance, dedication, and showing up. Step by step, she climbed from Guest Services Operative to Duty Manager, Assistant Facility Manager, and now Sports Hub Venue Manager at Zayed Sports City – one of the UAE’s most iconic sporting destinations.

Today, Itab oversees the daily operations of the Sports Hub and Tennis Complex, delivering world-class experiences for athletes, visitors, and partners alike. Coldplay. The Pope’s Visit. The Special Olympics. The FIFA World Cup. If it happened at Zayed Sports City, Itab helped make it happen – and here’s a closer look at the journey that got her there:

What’s your role in sport, and how would you describe what you do, in your own words?

As the Sports Hub Venue Manager at Zayed Sports City, I oversee the daily operations of the Sports Hub and Tennis Complex, ensuring the venues run safely, smoothly, and efficiently. I manage the team, coordinate events, handle scheduling and maintenance needs, and support organizers to deliver successful activities. In simple terms, my role is to make sure our facilities are ready, our service is high, and every athlete and visitor has a great experience.

How did you get started in sport?

I began my journey in the events and sports industry through large public events like FIFA, F1, and international exhibitions when I first moved to the UAE. That experience sparked my interest in sports operations, eventually leading me to join Zayed Sports City.

What does a typical day look like for you?

My day involves overseeing venue operations, supporting my team, coordinating with organizers, and ensuring the Sports Hub and Tennis Complex run safely and smoothly. After work, I end the day by helping my 14-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son with their homework and assignments, making sure everything is completed and submitted on time—with lots of love and support.

What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about your work?

People are often surprised by how much behind-the-scenes coordination is required—especially in a multi-purpose venue that hosts multiple events at the same time. With ongoing build-ups and breakdowns, plus 14 tenants and partners onsite, I must make quick decisions to keep operations smooth and minimize any disruptions.

What’s the most rewarding part of your work?

Seeing long-term clients, walk-in visitors, and partners enjoy our venues and knowing our team contributed to a seamless experience is incredibly fulfilling.

And what’s the most challenging part?

Managing multiple events and operational demands at the same time – while maintaining high service standards – can be challenging, especially during peak seasons, but I genuinely love what I do.

What’s one project, event, or moment you’re most proud of?

I’m especially proud of being part of major events like the Special Olympics, the Pope’s Visit, MWTC, MADO, the FIFA World Cup, and most recently Coldplay. The Coldplay concert, which impressed the entire country and its attendees, was incredibly executed and will remain a truly memorable milestone.
