Recovery has entered the chat, and it’s not just for elite athletes anymore.
Japanese-assisted stretching concept Dr.stretch has opened its fifth UAE location at Nad Al Sheba Mall, bringing its distinctive, one-on-one mobility sessions to one of Dubai’s fastest-growing sport and fitness communities.
Founded in 2010 by Masahiro Kurokawa, the brand is built on its proprietary Core Balance Stretch method, a system of over 150 techniques designed to unlock deep muscle tension, improve mobility, and support long-term movement quality. With more than 300 locations globally, its expansion in the UAE reflects a clear shift: recovery is becoming part of the routine, not the reward.
This isn’t massage. It’s not physio. It sits somewhere in between, and increasingly, at the centre.
Zoom out, and the context becomes clear. Sports participation across the UAE is accelerating, with the UAE Ministry of Sports targeting a 71% participation rate by 2031, a reflection of a population that is moving more, training more, and engaging more deeply with sport and fitness. At the same time, the business of recovery is scaling alongside it. The global recovery and sports travel market is already valued at $10 billion, while the UAE’s wellness economy, now the largest in MENA, has reached $34.1 billion, growing by 58% between 2019 and 2023. Layer onto that a regional sports market valued at $600 billion and projected to grow at 8.7%, and the picture becomes even sharper: this is a high-growth, high-demand ecosystem.
But the shift isn’t just about performance, it’s about pressure – or the release of it. In the UAE, 89% of residents report high stress levels, with 99% experiencing burnout symptoms, a reality that has become even more pronounced in the current climate. More activity, more ambition, more intensity, and with it, a growing need for systems that support how people recover, reset, and sustain their pace.
This is where Dr.stretch positions itself, at the center of performance, prevention, and everyday life.
Each session is delivered by trained stretch specialists working directly with the body to improve flexibility, posture, circulation, and resilience. Whether it’s endurance athletes stacking training blocks, runners logging early morning kilometres, or professionals spending long hours at a desk, the demand is increasingly the same: move better, feel better, last longer.
Importantly, the concept is designed with accessibility in mind, including dedicated women-only rooms across all locations, a detail that reflects the region’s evolving and increasingly inclusive fitness landscape.
The Nad Al Sheba opening builds on Dr.stretch’s growing presence in the UAE, joining existing locations at Dubai Hills Mall and Palm Jumeirah, as well as Marina Mall and Shams Boutik Mall in Abu Dhabi. Together, they form a network of recovery-focused spaces that are becoming as integral to routine as training itself.
“At Dr.stretch, we are in the business of helping people feel their best – physically and mentally,” said Venelin Tsonev, UAE Owner of Dr.stretch. “This moment has reinforced something we see every day: taking care of your body isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity. Whether you’re training at a high level or simply managing the demands of modern life, mobility and recovery are essential to how you move, perform, and live.”
The timing couldn’t be sharper. The UAE’s fitness ecosystem is expanding rapidly, from run clubs and cycling communities to Hyrox, triathlon, and endurance sport, but alongside that growth comes fatigue, stress, and the physical toll of doing more.
Dr.stretch taps directly into that tension, offering a method that Monocle compared to the Japanese concept of itakimochi ii — “painful, but satisfying.” A short-term discomfort in exchange for long-term movement quality.
It’s a shift gaining real momentum across the region, and one we’re here for.
