UAE Team ADQ opened its UAE Tour Women campaign today with a podium finish, as Irish rider Lara Gillespie sprinted to second place on the opening stage of the race.
The 111-kilometre Stage 1 route from Al Mirfa to Madinat Zayed concluded with a high-speed bunch sprint, where Gillespie was edged out only by stage winner Lorena Wiebes after a tightly contested finale.
Throughout the day, UAE Team ADQ controlled the race effectively, delivering a strong collective performance that proved decisive in the closing kilometers. The team executed a well-timed and coordinated lead-out, positioning Gillespie perfectly for the final sprint and underlining the squad’s cohesion and tactical discipline.

The result provided an encouraging start to the multi-stage race, rewarding the work of the entire team and setting a confident tone for the days ahead.
Speaking after the finish, Gillespie said:
“We did a great job today. Everything was perfect: we started our effort at the right moment and worked together as a group with excellent communication. We gave it everything and achieved a really good result. We’ll definitely try again tomorrow for something more.”
The UAE Tour Women continues on Thursday with Stage 2, a 145-kilometre route from Dubai Police Academy to Hamdan Bin Mohamed Smart University, as the race moves into its next phase.
