ICYMI, the British International School Riyadh Diplomatic Quarter (AKA: BISR DQ) has achieved a monumental victory, securing the title of U13 Minecraft World Champions at the prestigious Malta Esports World Championships, held last month.

This historic win not only marks a significant milestone for youth esports but also underscores the growing global influence of Minecraft as a competitive platform.

The groundbreaking tournament, organized by DAIGON Esports in collaboration with PLAYCON and supported by GamingMalta, provided an exceptional setting for the BISR students. The team demonstrated exceptional skill, creativity, and teamwork, competing against top international teams to earn the coveted world champion title in the U13 category.

Teams representing countries from every continent gathered for the Championships, bringing together the world’s best young Minecraft players. BISR DQ advanced through intense qualifying rounds, consistently overcoming formidable opponents with their strategic gameplay and innovative problem-solving. Their unique approach to challenges and collaborative spirit ultimately set them apart.

The event offered more than just competition, as the students had a valuable opportunity to network with peers from around the globe, laying a foundation for potential future careers in the rapidly expanding esports industry and related technology fields.

A World-Class Achievement

The triumph has been met with widespread celebration by students, staff, and families at the BISR DQ, as well as the wider esports community. According to school leadership, the team’s success is a direct testament to the school’s dedication to fostering essential skills like digital literacy, teamwork, and creative thinking among its students.

Phil Mathe, BISR, shared: “It’s unbelievable, I’ve not seen it in all the years I’ve been going to international school sports tournaments – this is another level…. it really has been world class and fitting of a world championship.”

David Higginson, CRO and Co-Founder of DAIGON Esports Ltd, commended the team’s conduct and skill:”It was such a pleasure for us to host BISR DQ at the School Esports World Championships in Malta. The students conducted themselves thoroughly respectfully throughout and through teamwork, problem solving and great skill, their excellence was rewarded by being crowned champions of the Minecraft U13 age bracket. The students, the staff and the school should be thrilled with their performance. Many congratulations and we look forward to seeing you rise to the challenge again in this year’s competitions and representing the school again next year at the SEWC in Malta!”

Inspiring the Next Generation

BISR DQ’s victory is expected to serve as a powerful inspiration for a new generation of young gamers not just in Saudi Arabia, but across the globe. The team remains committed to representing their school and country in future competitions, continuing to promote the positive impact of esports in education and youth development.
