Zeinab’s achievement shines a beacon of hope from a nation where war, terror, and the repression of women have been harsh realities for decades.
Following the Taliban’s takeover in 2021, the rights of Afghan women have been severely curtailed, with even their participation in sports deemed “neither appropriate nor necessary.”
Yet, Zeinab’s spirit remained unbroken. Born an Afghan refugee in Iran, she returned to Afghanistan where, with her father’s unwavering support for her education, she defied limitations. Even amidst immense challenges, she completed a marathon and an ultra-marathon.
Her connection with the non-profit She Can Tri opened the door to her first 70.3 Ironman in Dubai, culminating in her historic championship race in the US.
