From discovering trampoline gymnastics at six years old to representing Spain at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Noemi Romero’s journey to the world’s biggest sporting stage was far from straightforward.
The Spanish trampoline gymnast joins The Mettleset Podcast in Episode 65, Soaring to Paris, to share the determination, resilience and years of work behind becoming a first-time Olympian.
Romero also reflects on the physical and mental demands of a sport where athletes must combine power and precision while performing several metres above the ground.
Noemi Romero Discovers Trampoline at Six
Romero’s relationship with trampoline began when she was just six years old.
What started as a childhood passion gradually developed into an elite sporting career. However, her route to the Olympic Games did not follow a simple upward trajectory.
Throughout the episode, Romero discusses the setbacks and challenges that shaped her career, as well as the persistence required to continue pursuing an Olympic opportunity.
Her story offers an insight into the years of work that can sit behind a few seconds of competition on the world stage.
Noemi Romero Makes Her Olympic Debut
Paris 2024 marked a major milestone for Romero as she made her Olympic debut for Spain.
Her appearance also formed part of a significant moment for Spanish trampoline gymnastics, with Spain returning athletes to the Olympic trampoline stage after limited representation since the discipline joined the Games in 2000.
For Romero, reaching Paris was the culmination of a nonlinear journey shaped by resilience as much as sporting ability.
Yet qualifying for the Games was only one part of the challenge.
The Mental Demands Behind Olympic Trampoline
Trampoline gymnastics requires athletes to generate extraordinary height while maintaining control through a sequence of complex skills.
That combination makes mental strength an essential part of performance.
On The Mettleset Podcast, Romero explores what it takes to remain composed in the air, execute skills with precision and manage the pressure that comes with competing at the highest level.
Her journey highlights the balance between athleticism, technical consistency and mental fortitude required to succeed in the sport.
Bringing Elite Trampoline to the UAE
Around the original release of the episode, UAE-based trampoline fans were also given an opportunity to experience the sport alongside Romero and members of the Spanish National Trampoline Team.
The athletes took part in masterclasses at BOUNCE locations across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, giving participants an opportunity to learn from elite-level trampoline gymnasts.
The programme ran until September 19 as part of the athletes’ visit to the UAE.
