Imagine battling choppy waves, the relentless sting of salt mouth, and a churning stomach, all while swimming 30 kilometers in the open sea. That was the reality for triathlon coach and Women for Tri Ambassador, Melina Timson, as she conquered the UltraOceanman Kalamata in Greece.
Melina joined us in Episode 6 of TheMettleset Podcast, published 31 October, 2022, sharing incredible stories of sheer grit and determination. Despite facing conditions that would make anyone want to quit, something deep inside kept her pushing forward. This wasn’t the first time Melina had to dig deep. After stepping away from racing in her teens, she returned to the sport at 36, stronger both physically and mentally. Since then, she’s ticked off impressive feats like the Ironman distance Challenge Roth and the Ironman 70.3 World Championship.
Beyond her personal achievements, Melina is a force for positive change in the triathlon world. Based in Dubai, she coaches aspiring athletes and champions inclusion and diversity as a Women for Tri Ambassador. Her recent involvement in leading the first Triathlon Training Camp for Women in Saudi Arabia highlights her commitment to expanding opportunities within the sport.
